The Algebra I class uses Heath's Algebra I, An Integrated Approach. This class works with all algebraic concepts. It builds from algebraic expressions into linear equations to polynomials and finally into functions. As it builds upon these concepts, it includes intensive graphing and problems solving. There is an emphasis on problem solving and demonstrating how these algebraic concepts are used in the problem solving process. In addition to the above concept, scientific notation, exponents, and other number sense concepts are emphasized within the context of the practice problems. By using variety in the problems, students retain proficiency in their number sense ability as well as learn the diversity of real life problems. Cumulative tests are given at the middle and the end of each chapter.
