Prerequisite: English 11
This class builds on knowledge gained in English 11. Students must write a research paper that includes footnoting while following the provided MLA guidelines. While perfecting their skills in reading and writing, they learn to identify their own weaknesses and build on their strengths. Students apply more advanced forms of sentence structure and punctuation to their writing. Through Accelerated Reader books, assigned material in several textbooks, and their own research material, students learn a variety of skills as they become independent learners. Literature is based on American settings. Vocabulary is enriched through workbook exercises, quizzes, tests, and application. Students create and/or perfect their resumes, create a variety of business letters, and compile their senior portfolio.
