Prerequisites: English 11 and Satisfactory Placement Score- 3 hours of college credit at Cowley County Community College

This one-semester course is designed to improve the reading and writing skills of the students. The emphasis is on perfecting the fundamental principles of written English in structurally correct sentences, paragraphs, and expository themes. Critical analysis of essays is used to aid in developing the students' thinking and writing skills. The class is conducted as a workshop with students asking for feedback from one another and from the instructor. In addition to the basic writing assignments, students must produce one research paper with one final draft using parenthetical documentation and the other using footnotes; both papers follow the requirements of the MLA guidelines. Students in this dual-credit course must also meet the same requirements for the Accelerated Reader books, the study of vocabulary, and the résumé as the students in English 12.
