While perfecting skills in reading and writing, students also learn to write for a variety of audiences, purposes, and contexts. Students must write a research paper following the provided MLA guidelines. Through Accelerated Reader books, assigned material in textbook, and research materials, the students learn a variety of skills, such as taking their own notes and using them; differentiating literary genres and styles of writing as they learn literary concepts; using the acquired knowledge to perfect their own writing; and distinguishing the purposes for writing; the differences between stated and inferred main ideals, and the main ideas from the supporting details. Literature is presented sequentially so that students can begin to connect the literary works to the historical events surrounding the literature. Vocabulary is enriched through workbook exercise, quizzes, tests, and application.
