Central Schools Achieve Standard of Excellence
Central Schools mission of turning focused instruction into measurable student results has been successful as evidenced by the number of Standard of Excellence awards received for the 2010-2011 assessment scores.
State assessments in reading and math are administered each spring to students in grades 3-8 and once during their high school year. Science has been tested the past several years in grades 4, 7 & 11. In addition, during the 2011-2012 school year, history/government will be tested in grades 6, 8, & at the high school level.
The state Standard of Excellence designation is awarded on a grade level and building-wide basis. To achieve the Standard of Excellence, a large percentage of students must score at the highest level on the state assessments (exemplary) and only a small percentage of students may score at the lowest level (academic warning). Once these two requirements are met, a formula is applied to the test score range to determine eligibility for the Standard of Excellence designation.
The Kansas State Department of Education recently released the list of schools achieving the Standard of Excellence for the 2010-2011 school year. Central USD 462 received the recognition for 4th grade reading, 3rd, 4th, 5th & 6th grade math, building wide math, 4th grade science and building wide science, 7th, 8th, 11th grade reading and building wide reading, 7th, 8th & 11th grade and building wide math. The results statewide indicate a 10 year growth trend in reading and mathematics performance.
