Central High School National Honor Society, FCCLA, and Raider Work Ethic students volunteered to paint large barn quilts for the school community on April 15, 2015. The quilts will be hung on the Atlanta Community Building, Cambridge Senior Center, and Grenola Museum. The project was a coordinated effort of Cowley First and USD 462. It was funded by the Huck Boyd Foundation, Legacy Regional Foundation and the Mikesell Foundation.
Earlier this year, a quilt was painted and hung at the high school in Burden. In total, students at Central have painted eight barn quilts for the Cowley County leg of the Flint Hills Barn Quilt Trail, over the last three years. The mission of the trail is to promote rural tourism, community pride and economic growth of small businesses. Information on the quilt trail can be found at visit.cowleycounty.org.
