High School Art
This course will focus on the development and/or further exploration of each student’s knowledge, creative inspiration, and skill level in art. A variety of two and three dimensional art forms will be used throughout the year to provide a safe and balanced learning environment centered on the Discipline Based Art Education Model of production, history, criticism, and aesthetics.
1st 9 weeks: Drawing
- Students will learn the history and application of media such as graphite, charcoal, ink, colored pencils, marker, and pastels to explore design and its elements – line, shape, space, color, value, texture, and form.
2nd 9 weeks: Painting
- Students will learn the history and application of media such as acrylic paint, watercolor, and watercolor pencils to paper and canvas to explore the principles of design- balance, emphasis, movement, contrast, unity, pattern, and rhythm.
3rd 9 weeks: Ceramics
- Students will be engaged in the use of clay and its history; preparation, utilizing pottery wheels, hand building, kilns, molds, trimming, firing, glazing, etc.
4th 9 weeks: Community Art, Mixed Media & Sculpture
- Students will learn the importance of art in the world and the study of three dimensions, positive and negative space, pieces will be created by building up or cutting down through the use of found objects, mixed media, wood, cement, mosaic, etc.
